Parent Involvement Policy

Parent Involvement Policy

At Blanche Charles Elementary School, parents are:
 
  • committed to participate in parent committees and meetings at the school site level as well as the district level.  Committees include but are not limited to School Site Council, English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC), District English Language Advisory Committee (DELAC), Migrant Advisory Committee, General Parent Meetings, Parent Booster Meetings, etc.
 
  • elected by parents for School Site Council and EL parents are elected to participate in ELAC.
 
  • invited and encouraged to become volunteers in their child’s classroom or other classrooms or for after school programs.
 
  • invited and encouraged to attend parent trainings offered by the site or by the district.  Parent training is mandatory at the Kindergarten and Sixth grade levels.
 
  • invited and encouraged to attend scheduled report card parent/teacher conferences and informal parent/teacher conferences as needed.
 
  • sent report cards on a trimester basis.
 
  • sent timely communications from the school or district level in both English and Spanish.  Such communications include the School Accountability Report card, classroom newsletters by participating teachers, monthly calendars, notifications, etc.
 
  • sent timely progress reports for academic progress as well as discipline.  These include but are not limited to deficiency notices, weekly/daily progress reports, and Extended Day Learning Center referrals.
 
  • invited and encouraged to attend Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) meetings and Student Success Team (SST) meetings to discuss and plan for students’ individual needs.
 
  • sent the School-wide Discipline Plan to read and discuss with their children.
 
  • sent the Parent/Teacher/Student Compact outlining the responsibilities of each party in the education of the student.
 
  • invited and encouraged to attend Back to School Night in September and Open House in April to visit the school, their child’s classroom and to learn about their child’s curriculum.
 
  • invited and encouraged to attend Literacy events such as Pajama Reading Night, Book Fairs, Redesignation Celebrations, etc. along with their children.
 
  • invited and encouraged to attend extra curricular activities such as the Student of the Month assemblies, Halloween Carnival, Talent Show, Winter Program, etc.
